I was contracted by Hive Creative to help build and design an HTML5-based app (powered by Cordova/PhoneGap) for their client Leica Biosystems. It is an internal iPad app used by the Leica sales team to liaise and promote their products to current and potential clients. I worked as the primary app developer and frontend developer on the team — and also fulfilled duties as secondary interface designer and IA/UX consultant — and we delivered a successful solution that included a searchable product catalog, cost saving calculators, saved client profiles, notes and much more.
The menu opens when the Leica logo is clicked and gives overview top-down access to all the areas and functions of the app.
The product catalog is massive: it contains almost 2000 products, which are all searchable as well. I had to develop a way to “flat-pack” a JS object so that it was quicker to iterate through and retrieve specific pieces of information.
Leica sales reps could search the product catalog and save notes to any particular part of the catalog, so that they could then action them later for a client’s request.
I also helped design and develop promotional tools such as cost calculators for Leica sales reps to communicate potential savings/costs based on a client’s laboratory requirements. We had created a “version 1” app for Leica which was very rudimentary, and I had built the calculators to be modular so including their logic into the “version 2” app was seamless.
